Cambistat inhibits the production of gibberellic acid in the
treated tree, which decreases its growth rate.
Species differ in sensitivity to Cambistat, but vegetative
growth is generally reduced by 40-60% over a three-year
period from one treatment. Growth reduction within the first
year of treatment may not be as noticeable as in subsequent
years.
Growth Reduction
Growth reduction occurs in all the woody cells in a
treated tree. This includes the twigs, limbs, trunk and large
woody roots. The growth rings take on the appearance of old
growth trees. Cambistat does not reduce the number of cells
produced. It does not change the cells. They are just smaller
and less elongated. Leaf size is sometimes reduced, although
when too much Cambistat is applied, leaves may be significantly
smaller and very dark green in color.
It is very important that Cambistat
be applied at the rates recommended on the Cambistat
rate chart. Increasing application amounts will increase
the reduction of growth, however the appearance of the tree
will be compromised and leaf size can be reduced. We do not
recommend using the Cambistat rate chart for other growth
regulator products. Differing formulations and application
methods may lead to undesirable or unpredictable results.
Also, do not use Cambistat for non-woody plants.
