Cambistat® is a soil-applied tree growth regulator that reduces
tree growth 40% to 60%
When should I apply Cambistat relative to pruning?
Depending on the results you desire: To maintain a manicured look
apply Cambistat about 30 – 40 days before pruning. To allow some
regrowth and a more natural look, apply Cambistat at the time of pruning.
What is the best time during the year to apply Cambistat?
Cambistat can be applied anytime during the growing season as long as the ground is not frozen or
saturated with water.
Will surrounding vegetation be regulated?
Grass, shrubs, flowers and other vegetation will be regulated if the roots of these plants come in
contact with the applied Cambistat.
Is over regulation a possibility – can I harm a tree?
It is not likely that you will over-regulate a tree if you follow label directions. If by accident you over
apply, leaves and branches will likely be smaller. If you learn that you over applied, you can remove
the soil at the base of the tree which will reduce the amount of Cambistat available for uptake, thereby
reducing the amount of over-regulation.
Will use of Cambistat replace trimming?
No. Use of TGR’s reduces shoot growth which reduces frequency of trimming. If a strict trim cycle is
maintained, Cambistat will reduce the amount of vegetative growth necessary to remove.
How long does Cambistat last?
Reapplication is recommended every 3 years. However, on some tree species, effective regulation
lasts up to eight years. When considering reapplication, it is always helpful to look at the tree for
confirmation that reapplication is necessary.
Is Cambistat safe for people, pets & wildlife?
The Environmental Protection Agency has granted a Caution label to Cambistat concentrate which
is the lowest possible signal word available from the EPA. Secondly, Cambistat is diluted with 11 parts
water and injected in the soil next to the tree by licensed and experienced application professionals.
The tree roots absorb Cambistat and it moves into the canopy removing it from the soil and using it
inside the tree. Finally, there are no reported adverse health effects after ingestion of vegetation by
humans or animals.
What are the effects of Cambistat in groundwater?
Laboratory and field studies have been conducted as part of the standard battery of toxicological
studies for acceptance by the EPA. It has been concluded that paclobutrazol has low mobility in soil.
In a field study in sandy loam soil in North Carolina, with irrigation of 8.47 inches of water over thirty
days, no paclobutrazol was was detected below 6 inches in soil.
Do rates apply to my region of the country?
The rates indicated on the rate chart apply throughout the country. However, if the tree species
you plan to treat is not on the rate card, please contact RTSA. We may have experimental rates that
we are working with. If we do not have rates that we can recommend, we can work with you to
develop rates.
What is the background of this product – research, field performance?
Paclobutrazol has been university researched and field tested for over 30 years and has been used
in the utility industry in its present formula for more than eight years. It has been proven effective in
all parts of the country.
