A History of the Rainbow Tree Companies

The Trees
The early history of Rainbow Tree Companies cannot be separated from the history of Dutch elm disease in Minnesota.  In 1976, the city of Minneapolis removed 38,000 trees affected by Dutch elm disease.  That same year, Rainbow Treecare (RTC) entered into the elm protection business.  In the midst of one of the worst DED outbreaks in Minnesota history, RTC built its organization on the premise that it makes better business sense to protect and preserve trees than to remove them.

Predictable Results
In 1976 elm protection was a fledgling technology.  Reliable injection techniques did not yet exist and the tree health care market was flooded with chemicals that did not work.  Rainbow Treecare combined a solid understanding of tree biology with constant refinement of field application techniques.  The result was that RTC lowered infection rates in treated elms to less than 1% over a three year period, while untreated trees were experiencing an epidemic loss rate of 15% on an annual basis.  By 1985, RTC had become the largest elm protection company in Minnesota.   Several years later, In 1988, Rainbow Treecare expanded the scope of its service and opened the doors to its tree care division.  In addition to elm care, this division specializes in the accurate diagnosis and treatment of nearly every ailment that affects Minnesota trees.

Customer Service
Each and every client is a valued part of the future of RTC.  Since day one the company has maintained the highest standards for providing excellent customer service to its clientele.  As RTC focused on bringing reliable, comprehensive tree care services to Minnesota, its reputation for tree care expertise grew.   The consistently positive response we received from arborists and home owners alike encouraged RTC to successfully open its pruning division in 1994, making it a full service tree care provider.

In a continuing effort to fulfill customer demands, the Rainbow Treecare Companies has expanded in the Twin Cities market to include several specialty branches. Rainbow Treecare Commercial Services provides tree care management expertise to corporate grounds, homeowner associations, and publically held green spaces as their needs are often different than those of private homeowners. Rainbow Pest Experts focuses on managing common interior household pests such as mice, box elder bugs, wasps, and many others while bringing the commitment to customer service our clients expect from a Rainbow Company. Our newest sister company, Rainbow Lawn Care, was started to offer our scientific approach for turf care. We bring superior lawn management to our clients, offering both conventional and organic options with a tree-friendly focus.

Advancing the Tree Care Industry
In 1996, because of the needs expressed by arborist practitioners nationwide, RTC created a sister company, Rainbow Treecare Scientific Advancements (RTSA).  The goal of RTSA is to advance the science of tree care to benefit arborists and the tree care industry.  RTSA engages in research and product development to create tools and protocols for arborists that perform with predictable results.  We provide thorough training and supplemental information to teach others in our profession how to use, sell, and market our products.  As stewards of the environment, we search for and create innovative solutions to the problems faced by the tree care industry.
