This is a sample letter written by a client to prompt their neighbors to treat their trees.

Dear Neighbor,

Elm trees are an important part of the Country Club neighborhood. Because of their impact on our neighborhood (their beauty, their shade, and their contribution to property values), we are encouraging you to protect your elms from Dutch elm disease.

While many of us have treated trees diligently through the years, the number of treated trees has dropped off dramatically. We are again seeing diseased trees appearing throughout Country Club. The City no longer undertakes the expense of removing and replanting. The homeowner bears the financial burden as well as suffers the loss of their mature elm. Every untreated elm jeopardizes the elms around it.

It is not too late to still treat your elm this summer. In fact, most of of the infections occur August through mid-October. If you are looking for a recommendation of what company to use, we have used Rainbow Treecare and found them to be reputable, helpful, and knowledgeable. The Dutch elm disease treatment process they use was developed at and is recommended by the University of Minnesota. It is 99% effective and comes with a money back guarantee. Because Rainbow treats so many trees in this area they offer a $35.00 per tree discount.

You may call Rainbow Treecare directly at 922-3810 and ask for the head of the injection division. However, if you have a favorite tree company of your own, please call them (but make sure that they are using Arbotect 20-S to treat their elms). The important thing is to protect the elms from of Dutch elm disease. Unprotected elms pose a threat to many other elms in and around our neighborhood.

Finally, feel free to contact me at the number below if you have any questions regarding this group effort to keep our homes cool and our streets beautiful.

Sincerely,

A citizen of the neighborhood
