After safety, delivering reliable power is the most important responsibility for utility vegetation managers.  Trees are a leading cause of unplanned outages, which reduces reliability across the country.  Trees growing near conductors are also a large safety concern for line workers and contractors.  Studies have shown that nearly 25% of trees pruned along utility lines are in contact with the conductors at the time of pruning.  This greatly increases safety risks and pruning costs.
